MMP is proud of its mission to promote improved access to greater mobility options for persons with disabilities and other disadvantaged individuals. As such, this section of our website lists notable newsworthy items that we believe encapsulate many of our accomplishments in fulfilling this mission.
Access Services Los Angeles Travel Training Contract
In December of 2012 MMP was named as the successful bidder for the Travel Training contract for Access Services in Los Angeles County. This important contract was previously held by MMP’s for-profit affiliate R&D Transportation Services, who for 5 years has provided excellent travel training services to Access customers. MMP looks forward to continuing this tradition by providing the high level and quality of service that Access is accustomed to. To that end MMP is pleased to have transitioned the entire R&D team to employment with MMP, and welcomes the team as a vital part of fulfilling our mission. In addition to providing a high quality travel training program, this project positions MMP to continue its partnership with Access Services to increase mobility options for persons with disabilities through other venues including participation in numerous outreach activities and as an active participant in Access’ recently formed coalition on volunteer driver programs.
Assembly Certificate of Recognition
On June 9, 2011, MMP was presented with a Certificate of Recognition from Assemblymember Bob Blumenfield of the 40th District of the California State Assembly. This certificate recognizes MMPs commitment to reach out to those who have bravely served our country in our military forces. This recognition was in response to MMP staff’s participation in the 2nd Annual San Fernando Valley Veterans Employment Committee’s Employment and Resource Expo. MMP participated in this event as part of our community outreach efforts under the JARC SFV Mobility Management Pilot Project Grant. Staff met with attendees at the Expo and shared transportation resource information. The event was a great success, and it was very nice to be recognized for our efforts.
Ventura County Travel Training
MMP has recently been awarded a grant under the FTA New Freedoms program to continue our efforts in providing travel training to residents of Ventura County. This valuable program has been in existence under previous grant funding through ARC Ventura County, with ARC serving as the grantee and MMP providing the service. The program has provided much needed travel training services to many Ventura County residents over the past two years.
Recently the Ventura County Transportation Commission approved a cooperative agreement with MMP which will allow us to serve as the direct grantee and administer the program. This change will provide the same level of service as was provided under previous grant cycles, but effectively eliminates the need for ARC as the administrator or “middle man” for the funding. The result is a more efficient flow of funding and eliminates the administrative burden that ARC was willingly carrying in order to get the program off the ground. Our thanks go out to ARC for their participation in getting this important program started.
The newly awarded grant cycle will begin in January 2012, and currently has secured funding to cover program costs through the first 9 months of the year. MMP will be applying for additional grant funding in the near future to continue funding the program.
